Well after my original cd burner went out a year ago i bought a light-on dvd burner and after a few months it wont even burn cd's, i am hardly impressed with it. Now its time to buy a new one cause i cant stand not being able to burn things, i need recommendations on some burners. I think i am going to try samsung because i have used them in my last 2 PC builds and no problems so far , also alot of good reviews on the egg. Another question i have is does SATA do anything for a drive, any performance gains from sata over an ide?

I just bought a pair of SATA burners. One Lite-on (cause I've had such good luck with them) The other Samsung. The price difference between the SATA and IDE is pretty small, so I just bought the SATA drives. There isn't a performance difference between IDE and SATA, but SATA is easier to route. (and of course the 'cool' factor of SATA burners of course)

you won't find any performance gains if you hook up your burner to sata. but if your board supports it, go for it; smaller cables are always good :p
