Hello everyone!! New to the forums here just want to get some feedback and help. I had a old computer for a while about 4years and finally upgraded. I have minor overclocking experiance my first overclock was my E6600. I am a newbie however I do alot of researching on parts and price checking before I dived into something like this.

Old Setup:

- Processor: E6600 Dual Core OC @ 3.2Ghz
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
- VideoCard: eVGA Geforce GTS 8600
- Power Supply: Thermaltake 500W
- Harddrive: Samsung 250GB 7200RPM
- Memory: 4GB Corsair XM2 800 DDR2
- Case: Antec 900
- DVD Drive: Lite-On DVD-RW
- Monitor: 32' Westinghouse TV/PC Monitor

I recently just built this new PC. Here are the specs:

- Processor: i7 930 $199
- Cooling: Noctua DH-14 /w Kaze 3000rpm fans $70
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R $188.99
- VideoCard: MSI Geforce GTX 460 1GB Cyclone $209.99
- Power Supply: XFX 750W Blk-Ed $129.99
- Harddrive: Samsung F3 1TB 7200RPM Sata HD $64.99
- Memory: 6GB Corsair XM3 1600 DDR3 $134.99
- Case: Antec 900 Use From Previous Build
- DVD Drive: Lite-On DVD-RW Use From Previous Build
- Monitor: 32' Westinghouse TV/PC Monitor Use From Previous Build

I made out with everything pretty much under $1000.

I need help to get this sucker to 4ghz~. Im lost on what volts to use as well. I have it at 3.8ghz stable running Prime95 @ 65C max load, been leaving it like this for the past few days no issues. I try to clock to 4ghz and im getting Windows 7 BSOD on loading. Memory Dump Errors.

Ambient temps in my room ranges from 28-35C depending on time of day. I would want to clock for a hot day just to play it safe. I live in sunny california.

Here are my settings i7 930 d0 @ 3.8ghz

I hope I went the right route with all my hardware as well.

the first thing I would try is to raise pci-e freq to 105, then raise cpu clock drive to 900mv, if that doesnt help then try to raise the qpi vtt to 1.4 (could take more or a little less, you have to test this) and then set all the other voltage setting that are on auto to the default value (some will start at a value lower than what default is-just look at the value in bios to the left and set the setting to that value). there is a chance that your chip wont make 4.0, not too likely though.

and also never underestimate the value of reading Miahs guide to the new chips from intel. he is a world class bencher and knows way more than most, and can also get it into terms that most can understand. here is a link

Ill try to change those settings around. And also Miahs guide I read it through however I prefer a guide that is 100% for this board. Not just a general overclocking guide.

Welcome to the Giga-family LOL
um.. thanks for help?

There is no definitive guide for your board/setup. No 2 systems are alike even if they have identical parts. Each system overclocks/reacts differently.

MIAH's guide is actually the best there is. If you want a guide that's 100% tailored to your specific board, it's called trial and error. Everyone here will chime in with their settings that worked for their Gigabyte board. Ultimately you will have to test what works and what doesn't for your particular setup.

Fine tuning your setup will take alot of time and patience. Keep reading the stickies and test the settings each member here posts.
