I am looking at purchasing either a new graphics card or a new SSD. I am currently using an 8800gt and a WD 300gb velociraptor. If i got a new video card, i was thinking about getting a 5870. I am just curious as to which upgrade others would do in my situation.

I am a gamer, but the 8800gt plays the majority of games, with the exception of crysis and supcom and some new games at max settings. I also use the computer for basic school tasks like word processing and such. I do use CAD and other engineering related software like MATLAB since i am an engineering student.

Current System:
EVGA x58 SLI mobo
Core i7 920 @ 3.8ghz 24/7
6 GB 1333 MHZ DDR3
XFX 8800 GT
300 GB WD Velociraptor

Suggestions for the SSD are welcome if you would go that route, I would just like to keep the price below $400 if possible.

Thanks

Here's what you do:

Get a 30GB OCZ Vertex for the OS and a few most used apps. $105 ($80 AMIR)
Get a HD5850 for $300

Best of both worlds :D
