Most likely they didn't lock it as the mojority of computer users wouldn't bother with this. Come on, remember, whilst the majority of us who use forums, overclock and mod stuff, most (85-90% of) users just let a system run stock.

It's a three way advantage for nVidia, gain enthusiast support, sell more products, and draw customers away from ATI, IMO its almost silly not to offer a poor man's sli.
