diddnt think this qualified as a log, so i just figured id throw it in here.

thought up lots of creative ways to post this, but im not really in the mood... so lets get to the point- i have too many bloody hard drives, and not enough space to store them.

and wound up with just as many hard drives, in a just as messy enviroment.

Accepting ideas for names- i just call it 'server'

right now its only a little over 2.5 terras. i'd add more, but i dont have a use for it all. i need to work on effectively cooling them without making a racket- for now they just power down after 60 seconds of idle. assuming it listens, which i doubt it does.

ehh, not especially. ive got an old AT psu powering all the ones in the back row, the rest are powered off the same one that powers the server.

The same reason I need 1Terabyte on my home server. Massive Pron storage:p

Indeed, once you get going it's hard to imagine ever having to do with LESS then 1 TB.
Amen

Wouldnt the drives powering down after 60 seconds of idle cause excessive wear and tear. Kinda like stop and go traffic?

actually theres very little porn on there, its more for just backups than anything. and bragging.

as for wear and tear, not really. one drive hosts my webserver/everything else, the rest are powered down for iether days or hours at a time, only spinning up when i need to drop data on or pull data off. its 60 seconds because they arent adequately cooled for 24/7 operation, and i really hate noise.
