Optical Drives on Promise RAID?

I have an A8V Deluxe, and I was simply wondering if I would have any problems using my Promise RAID controller for my IDE optical drives (not in any sort of RAID ).

It is possible if you reconfigure it to ATA mode but bear in mind many of the Promise chips cannot read/write to optical drives faster than 16x.

I actually don't do THAT much burning anyway...

CD's. I'm not sure about the DVD speed, besides it might be faster now.
