Hi everyone captain newbie here !!

Ive just built my first decent (In comparision to my old one) Pc

Gigabyte Ga X58 Ud3r
Intel I7 950 D0
Intel DBX-B Cooler
Corsair XMS3 2000 Mhz 2 * 4GB
Saphire Radeon 7970 HD OC 3GB
Silent Pro Gold 1000W PSU

I followed the "3 step guide to o/c 17 950". Very good for a first timer i thought but i can get stability @ 4.2 ghz.

I have a very stable system @ 4.025 but if i go any higher i seem to run into a brick wall with voltages

Ive tried 1.4 vcore and up to 1.55 QPI/VTT ive been alot lower for both but i appear to need alot of voltage just to be stable at 4.02.

but every time i stress test it (Intel Burn @ Maximum) i either get a 101 or 124 BSOD

My Temps are remarkably good (from what ive read about intel cooler)

Idle 30 27 29 25

Loaded Up 70 68 71 67 temperature doesnt seem to be an issue workshop at the moment is 9 degrees...

Im begining to wonder if my chip doesnt like being wound up to 4.2

Any info from you guys would be greatly appreciated as its annnoying that i read up on 4.2 as a daily o/c with really low voltages in comparision to what im having to put in.

Cheers in advance :attn:

Ive now read miles to much conflicting info about voltages i mutter it in my sleep !!

Give these settings a try, leaving the DRAM multiplier at x8.0 = DDR3-1600, but adjusting the timings and voltage to match the DDR3-1600 SPD profile listed under the SPD tab of CPU-Z.

Thanks for the info and your tiime but she wont even post with those settings !!! brick wall me thinks

If I remember right a lot of users with those i7 950 were not the greatest batches to OC. I had one for a short time that I couldn't get stable @4.3Ghz/1.6vcore under chiller water and 4Ghz/1.35 on air stable. I traded it for a i7 920 D0. With all other components the same hit 4.4Ghz stable under chilled water with only 1.35vcore , 4.2Ghz/1.2vcore on air and could peak suicide bench @ 4.7Ghz 1.6vcore. May just be your cpu holding your OC back.
