i bought myself a q8200 of ebay for £95 ($150) ish to replace my old e2160

q8200 2.33ghz 1333fsb
gigabyte 965p ds3p v3.3
4gb ddr2 800 5-6-6-18
hd 3850

damn do these things run cool and have a very low voltage of 1.1v this quad runns cooler than my overclocked dual core i had before this. it ran stable at 333 x 9 =3ghz @ 1.45v this is doing 2.8ghz on stock voltages 400 x 7 - 2.8ghz

my fan does not have to run above 1600rpm to keep it under 65c my e2180 was at 2200rpm.

now i have a problem becuse this chip needs a huge fsb because of the low multiplier and the lowest my ram will run is a 1:1 ratio my memory is holding me back as its limit is ddr880ish and it wont do that unless its got really loose timings and huge amounts of voltage.

has anyone else been overclocking these new 45nm quads how have you got on?

Depending on luck, you might be able to loosen those ram timings and overclock them to 900Mhz with a bit more Ram voltage, say 2.1V if it isn't already. This will set you for a 450Mhz FSB QDR (1800Mhz eff.) which should set you up for 450x7 = 3150Mhz if the cpu allows (changing voltages off course). Otherwise you seem to be limited to 2800Mhz, which isn't bad for an oc. Otherwise I would invest in some decent 1000Mhz/1066Mhz ram, which can be had for cheap. If I lived in the U.S. I would have shipped you my spare 4Gb of G.skill 1066.

Anyway, looking at the rest of your setup it looks like the CPU wouldn't be a bottleneck in games and general usage. Good luck and happy Xmas!

a m8 is giving me some OCZ Reaper HPC 2x1GB DDR1150 5-5-5-18 @ 2.30v so i will be overclocking further soon!

all i can say is good luck but you will more then likely hit a fsb wall around 470-490. for best ocing of 45nm quads you need a P45 based board.
