I just bought 24 GB Patriot memory PV7324G1600ELHK for Asus P6T motherboard.
Two things bother me:
1. Memtest (v.4.20) tells me that this memory is PC3-8500, not PC3-12800 as I would have expected based on frequency 1600. Sticker on the box says PC3-12800.
2. I couldn't overclock it a bit: even with the next available frequency 1866 system doesn't boot at all or memtest crashes immediately.
I could overclock my older 1600 memory even to 2133.
Why memtest says it's PC3-8500? 8500 corresponds to DDR3-1066, not DDR3-1600.
I have a suspicion that this is really a mislabeled memory and it is really DDR-1066 and 1600 is an overclocking form it. Can this be the case?
I was going to buy Corsair DDR-1600, but Patriot was $30 cheaper and I went for it.
Can Corsair 1600 be overclocked on P6T? I think it should be possible. I am thinking about returning patriot memory and getting Corsair.
