I love AMD for their last few years of reign, and I'd love to see a comeback... but I gotta say that I'm quite happy with my g0 q6600 :soda:

ok so Intel is using an 8 core beast...

and in the dual core arena, the actually have a quad core(2 core, DP)?

Penryn Dual-Core Xeon DP

E5260 3.33 GHz 65W 6MB
$851
E5205 1.86 GHz 65W 6MB
$177

In all honesty, I think I can even live with my g0 Q6600 for post-Nehalem... But probably by then, there would be apps/games that would utilize 8 core that would entice me..

The only real feature I wanna see is superior voice recognition in game. That'll be the day ... when I can say "Switch to Colt" or "Cast Armageddon spell" lol.

Speaking of which, anyone using a quad core and use the voice recognition feature in Vista? Is the process dedicated to a core or? How efficient is it, do people use it enough?

Yea, I also see my Q6600 lasting me quite a while, and till Nehalem at the very least. Of course we've all said that, but this seems to be just a tad different with such a jump from previous tech.

My previous CPU was a Mobile P4 . Silly college and being poor, glad that nonsense is over with.

Is that an 8800gtx ultra? I think I've asked you before. Not fair damnit lol

Yeah, there is an IMC, as announced, I was just reiterating for the people who were less caught up with the news. And Gesher needs ANOTHER new mobo and won't be using Nehalem's mobo either. Looks like I'm gonna jump two gen's ...

Not sure if I'm so fond of powering up and down of the cores within... As it is, power users turn off the Speedstep feature, I wonder how effective this core powering up/down will be for it to be feasible for the performance segment of the crowd.

I mean that it will need new mobo, IMC and northbridge memcontrollers wouldn't mix well.

Workstation sales probably make more cash than the extreme OC crowd and the former won't turn off speedstep not really OC, and since most likely you can turn it again no harm done with implementing it.

Can't wait to see this nehalem out.

The card in my signature? Nah, it's a 8800GTX. I've seen better clocks than what I have?

stupid question:

Will we be able to overclock these new chips / will someone be making a OC'ing motherboard for the 771 socket?

Will there be a 775 socket version comming out?

socket 771 is for servers only, you wont find any ocing mobo's.

no you wont find any nehalem's for lga775. we are getting penryn on lga775, the next socket upgrade is going to be 1366 pin (socket b)

that just means its going to be alot hard to "pen" mod a cpu now.
