Problem booting CD

I am trying to reformat using my Windows XP Home Edition CD. I set my BIOS to boot from my CD-ROM drive. When it boots it asks me to press any key to boot from the CD. I press any key on my keyboard and nothing happens. I also tried using my mouse. Can somebody help me?

go to www.bootdisk.com and make the required floppy then load the setup from the floppy's on restart...cant think of anything else

is the cd scratched or damaged in any way?
is the cd drive in good, working order?

those would be my first suggestions, if the answers are no and yes respectively, then you're problem is deeper.

Is the keyboard plugged in properly?
