How much more seti are the quad cores pumping out than the dual cores?

What OS is being used for the quads?

Thanks!

you can use linux or windoze... linux if seti has a linux client, i have run seti in years. you would though be able to run 4 instances instead of 2, so you would be doubling your work output.

my core 2 duo 2ghz is spitting out 1,700 points just over every day if i let it run alone with out using the comp. thas the SMP client.

For the Core 2 Duals here is what I can get:

E6600 at around 3325 gets around 2550-2600 RAC
E6300 at around 3450 gets around 2500 RAC
E4400 at 2500 gets around 1800-1900 RAC
T7400 laptop at 2166 gets around 1500 RAC

I'm Intel stupid nowadays - isn't the E4300 and E4400 the same CPU with a different stock multi, which can be changed? If so, I'll look into putting together a cheap-o C2D instead of a 939 next time. If I can manage 1800 RAC for near the same money it's worth it.

(Please see my thread in the Intel CPU section for comments.) ... :)

Yeah, the only difference betweeen the E4300 and E4400 is the multipliers; 9 versus 10. They are downward adjustable only so in my case I went with the E4400 for the 10 multi since the Asrock 775i65G board I'm using it in is so fsb limited (300 fsb max and it won't do that stable either). If I get time to mess with that rig while off from work I'm going to experiment with doing a 266 fsb padmod and maybe a vcore padmod too on that E4400 to see if I can get more out of it.

But there are several cheap mobo's available right now that will let you do a cheap upgrade to C2D. They might not overclock too well but will let you reuse your old DDR ram and AGP vid cards. The board I have uses the i865 chipset and uses DDR and AGP out of it's previous build. Gigabyte also makes a mobo using the i865G chipset too but I don't know how well it runs.

I don't care about reusing DDR RAM - I need all I've got for the 939 rigs. Besides, 2x512 DDR2 is fairly cheap and should be enough - that's all the 4400+ system uses (too bad Intel named a chip w/the same number - it can get confusing :-/). It'll be awhile before I buy more hardware, though - still got two 939 systems to build not counting the one I'll finish this weekend. I'm just keeping the possibility in mind and picking up little pieces of info here and there so I don't have a ton of research to do later. I even browse the Intel CPU section on occasion now ... ;)
