ram / cpu / mobo compatability question

so, if i were to buy a workstation board that supports ddr3-1333 and the xeon only supported ddr3-800/1066 would it still work and just default back 1066 or would it just not work at all? im wondering because ddr3-1333 ECC is alot cheaper than 1066/800

It'll go to 1066.
The 1366 socket stuff I had did that with certain CPUs.

ok awesome because im not about to pay like $90 for 12gb of ddr3 1066 lol. il stick with the $55 for ddr3 1333 im moving the a 40w cpu with hyperthreading since my 771 machine pulls so much power and has like 5% load barely at most. 2x80w vs 1x40 winning
