Alright, i've been planning this since i got a rackmout case, which to me was a while ago.

PLEASE do not post in this thread, nothing bothers me more than reading someones project log, with 20 posts between updates of people making comments.

ANY comments/ suggestions, etc are welcome, please post them in my other thread, which i started when this was still formulating.

Heh, that was before i decided to make a new desk for this.

This project origonally was just for me. its evolved, and now that i have a senior project due in about a month i figure its time to get crackin.

the idea: Watercooled rackmount case, attatched to a desk. the space in the top of the desk will be nice for a radiator, mabe a pump, possibly a large diamiter PVC pipe (sideways) etc. case will be on drawer mounts on the underside of the desk, so it can be pulled out to service it. Of course, thats no good for a senior project. there will be a pvc res one way or another, and it will have a thermistor in it. there will be another thermistor in the rackmount case. they will both report temps to the server, and it will report them on a VFD ( http://www.netman86.com/pics/VFD.JPG ) and will also host them on a webpage, maybe using MRTG to graph.

OK, lets get to the meat here, the pics!

A few shots of the wood i have set aside for this so far:

Now for the desk itself, blueprints!

and of course we gotta make them somehow.

not the cleanest workspace, but it works.

Of course, ill take pics of the rest of the parts when they come in...watercooling parts, and some other desk parts on the way.

some other info:

the server, so far.

msi k7d

2x 1700+ DLT3C (i forgot the current speed, with those sp-97's... doesnt
much matter because it will change when i watercool them!)

intel pci-x gigabit ethernet card (~$100 at newegg still, nice card)

promise sata card. does raid 0 and 1, but i perferr JBOD (because raid 5 is too much money)

1x80gb drive for slackware linux, and the webserver.
5x 250gb hard drives. 1 is sata, 3 are pata with sata adapters, one is pata on the same chain with the 80. for now. more sata adapters on the way, and more 250 pata's when they come up on woot.com again too!

i use ALL 120mm fans because i hate whiney noise. gotta get those hard drives powering down >:p

feel free to leave comments, suggestions, and anything else in the mentioned thread!

ALL PICS ARE DOWN 3/10/06 @ 10:00PM EST -- Moving server into the rackmount case!

in other news, got my pump the other day. Also got in the serial cable for the VFD i havnt taken pics of yet, way cool though. Also got in the 100k thermistors, ive decided to go the way of thermistors in the joystick port and gp_temp to get temps.

will have way more on that, with more info, later.

ok. got the fittings and stuff. also got some pics of the hole i made in the server case so that the hoses can get to the rest of the desk
