I have established a stable overclock with reasonable temperatures using several stress tests (Intel Extreme Tuner, Old Prime 95, etc.), however there are other more extreme stress tests (new 64-bit Prime 95, Core Damage, ...) that drive some core temperatures much higher than I want to see. The default thermal throttling temperature for the i7-6700K is way too high for my comfort (Tjmax is 100 deg C). However, the chip itself has additional configurable protections described in sections 5.1 - 5.7 of the following Intel PDF. http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...sktop-6th-gen-core-family-datasheet-vol-1.pdf

I'm going to see if I can demonstrate thermal throttling at around 80 deg.

Edit: I had no success with the existing controls in my bios. I haven't found parameters TDP or cTDM in my bios.
I did find the DPTF driver for Win 10, which is supposed to be able to set these parameters
( http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds104368 )

Edit2: Here is a link to a forum that discusses using ThrottleStop, an application that works on older Intel i series processor chips. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2297457/lenovo-y50-cpu-throttling-issue.html

Edit3: Well, this seemed to be possibly a good idea because throttling control via the bios would be a lot less risky than deliding the CPU chip. Also, the information originated in an Intel PDF. However, I spent most of the afternoon scanning the internet for usage experiences that turned up mostly negative. Some users were helped but too many others suffered poor performance. At this point, I have to consider this concept to have problems in its implementation and not quite ready for prime time... If anyone has had positive experiences please let me know.

Intel makes this specification... its fine where it is... there is no need to change it.
