are the clear thingies that came with my case, which are screw shaped on one end and wierd shaped on the other (maybe about 1.5-2cm long) the standoffs to put the motherboard on, inbetween it and the case? if not, what do the standoffs look like, and what are the clear thingies for?

Yes. The screw end goes into the case panel behind the motherboard and the other end locks into one of the screw holes in the motherboard.
