My brother is wanting to upgrade his cpu.

He currently has an i3 3210 cpu that came with an aluminum heatsink/fan from Intel.

He is looking at an OEM i5 chip, I think the 3570, but does not come with a heatsink and fan.

I was wondering if the heatsink he has now will be adequate in cooling the i5?

I am not sure when stock intel fans become copper, especially for i5 cpus.

He doesn't overclock as the board he has now is a B75 chipset.

I doubt it, Intel really cheaped out on the coolers this generation.
You can always try it and see, and then buy a better cooler if it roasts.

I figured it will be fine, but wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I remember the first generation LGA 775 coolers and socket 478 coolers which had large amounts of copper in them. I made a tidy profit in copper scrap from those heatsinks I collected at my old job from old systems people would bring in.
