Hi - first timer on this forum (hope I'm in the right place) and completely NOOB when it comes to overclocking. I built this system myself (quite a feat considering my technological ineptitude!) and feel I can get a bit more out of it. All I know about OCing is horror stories about burnt out CPUs, PSUs, and motherboards. All I've really done so far is set my DRAM frequency to that specified on the memory sticks (modules?). Any suggestions for stable BIOS settings (with appropriate warnings/explanations) would be welcome and appreciated as would be any directions to info on what all the jargon means (MB manual explains hardly anything).

The first thing you should do is read the sticky at the top of this forum, then if you have any specific questions ask them in their respective forums...

HOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals) - A Guide v1.7
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=515316

You'll also need to note which model of P5Q you have (including BIOS revision), the SPD timings and voltage of your RAM (a direct link to Patriot's site would be helpful), including the stepping and VID of your chip (can be found using CPU-Z and Real Temp).
