the little bee and I have just gotten back from a lot of air travel, I downloaded a whole bunch of old westerns from you tube and took a bunch of matlock dvds for her.
with the dvds the audio was fine from episode to episode, with the downloads the audio was up and down from episode to epsode just as it is here on the compuer, I have to adjust the volume between each episode.
is there hardware or software that can even out the volume on the fly?

Windows Media Player can.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of the Creative software for my mobo. Usually volume leveling pops up as an option for burning.

I'm not sure if this works on Windows, but I use MPV player on Linux (supports Windows as well) and I can accomplish this by editing the mpv.conf file with the following line:

af=lavfi=[dynaudnorm=f=100]
