what do you guys think of this setup? This would be my first machine build, I could use some help.

CPU: AMD 64 3800+ X2 (socket AM2)

Mobo: GIGABYTE NF4 SLI

RAM: Patriot Signature 1GB (solid memory low price)
Two gig kit if you willing to spend the extra (2x 1GB)

Case: any ATX case w/ about 550 w power supply

Video: ATI FireGl v3100 pci-express (already have this item)

Sound: CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS, AUDIGY 2 ZS

case: Rosewill R6AS5-BK 0.8mm SECC 120mm Fan ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Power Supply: RAIDMAX RX-530A ATX12V/ EPS12V 530W Power Supply 115/230 V CB, IEC, TUV, UL, CSA

Disc: double layer dvd sony burner & dvd rom reader (currently own)

I was also planning on purchasing a large hard drive and attaching 2 others I currently have.

Your opinion would be a big help, feel free to make any suggestions or point out any compatibility issues I may have, thanks

A little bit of everything. Mostly used for web, music, and storage. I'll be doing some slight photo editing, some gaming, and other various multimedia, nothing extreme as far as multimedia goes. As well as all the office applications.

One other thing I failed to mention is that I plan on running windows vista business.

Why go AM2 instead of Intel ? AM2 is severely beaten by even the lowest end Allendale chips.

I would recomend a 6300 with a cheap Abit board :)

Also, try and stay away from Raidmax PSU's. They arent very good.

Brands to look for are Fortron, Zippy, PC Power N Cooling, Silverstone.

If you want 1g, make sure you get 2x512mb instead of just 1g. Althugh Im not to sure on what you planned since you didnt give any specifics.

I would nab a DFI Mobo rather than the Giga board. Giga is alright but the OC & voltage options tend to be...lame. Also I strongly recommend a PSU upgrade. Go with something like the FSP AX500(Blue Storm) or other quality unit. Raidmax is okay for cases but their PSUs are decidedly low quality. Last I had never worked, just sparked alot. The Seagate 7200.10 perpendicular drives are terrif and newegg has been stocking the 320Gig drives for $94 shipped.

Thanks for the input, taking into consideration what I have listed, and say I wanted to spend about 6 to 7 hundred dollars what would you guys change or do.

I think my current setup is about 640 with most of the parts coming from newegg. I'll assume one thing is to upgrade the power supply. what Mother board and cpu would you get? the MB i have listed is $83 and the cpu is $175, what is the best i can get for a similar price or a little more? I'm open to any suggestions.

How about this CPU and motherboard? Still looking for some different power supplies

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

MB:
ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A (V5.1) Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

You won't be happy with that motherboard. I'm using it right now, and I'm here to tell ya it's not very good. If you're switching to Allendale you might look at the nVidia 600 series boards(the 680i looks very impressive), it's expensive though.

Can anyone recommend a motherboard that will work with this cpu that would be around $100 or maybe slightly more?

At the low end there's the Intel BOXDP965LTCK here:

Then in the middle there's the Giga S3:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017

...and finally weighing in at around $150 shipped, there's the very popular Giga DS3:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128012

Then there are the upcoming nVidia 600 series as I mentioned previously. The 680i is just the cream of the crop. The products in the 600 series are very similar to the 500 series in that there will be a high, middle, and low end variant. It does appear that nV has FINALLY fixed there trouble with Intel Processors(necessary for their own survival) and if you want "official" SLI with an Intel processor this is your only option currently.

Ok, thanks for all the help, here is what I have now. The cost comes out to about $770. Hopefully this works out well.
