Hello, I am at the Louisiana Center for the Blind doing some work for them here in class. They are thinking about getting a wireles router and or access point for the building. right now they have one. we use a DSL line to connect to the web, but the VPN router is having conflicts with the passwords, and we don't even use the VPN feature. the building is a small two story deal, the point we have here is good enough for the first floor. but won't cover the 2nd. What is the best for extending the wireles network to the upper level, and remember these people come in with cheap govt laptops with likewise cheap wireles cards.. Something blind friendly would be nice too, if anyone knows anything about that. Thank you.

For cheap, my suggestion would be to get another wireless router. Then just go into the new router, turn off DHCP, physically place it where it will cover the first floor, and connect it to the existing wireless router with an ethernet cable. (The cable would be a straight cable from the uplink port on one to a normal port on the other.)
