So currently I already have 2x 28inch 1920 X 1200 resolution monitors at home, im going to university and I do not want to bring my 28inches so im thinking of buying a smaller monitor,

There is that samsung 23inch with an odd resolution of 2048 X 1152, wider than my 28 inches which is pretty nice or

23inch from LG the more popular 1080p resolution. Im thinking of the samsung one due to the resolution, however if LG is a better brand I will get LG then.

I'd go the LG myself, for a more standard res. That said, My friend has a really nice Syncmaster 2250 monitor he got.. Apparently perfect for gaming, etc. No HD lag (as some people experience on larger LCD tvs/screens). Etc. Theres a 2350 model but I can't find it there..

Perhaps look at this one. BenQ have some nice quality screens these days.. I like a lot of their models cos they usually come with HDMI + DVI + VGA, rather than just the former 2, like a lot of other screens.

What do you do? Gaming, home theater, general productivity...?

If you don't game at that full resolution, but like HD video playback, then a resolution of 1080p would be fine. Gaming- 1920x1200 is preferred. I would avoid the 2048 X 1152 rez.

DO NOT go with the samsung 23incher thats 2048x1152 rez.... I bought a dell SP2309W which is the same exact panel, and it had HORRIBLE color accuracy / uniformity issues, as well as they narrowest viewing angles ever.

Not to mention the fact that in that small of a screen which has a square inch area of a 16:10 22incher with a resolution 33% more, everything becomes super tiny and hard to read.

there is a reason why 22inch 1680x1050 screens have been the majority size in all screens as the pixels / sq inch is right at 7300ish, which seems to be the best combo of density to size... if you extrapolate it out, a 23incher 1920x1080 screen is only 8% more which isnt much so the emerging 23in 1920x1080 screens should be very nice, which they are.

As far as the 2048x1152 rez being weird, i didnt have any issues with games recognizing it, but its definitly not a common rez.... regardless i would steer clear unless they make a screen thats 25-26in with that rez.

thanks guys for your input, I am not going to be using the monitor for gaming, as I am at uni to study, not game lol. In the end I could not resist the extra wider resolution from the samsung 23inch, I don't know if its just your dell or what nd4spdbh2 but I must say I am pretty pleased with this Samsung 2048X1152. I took a screenshot of it compared to my laptops 720p(1336X768) and it is massive difference,I dont notice any trouble reading the font so I am pretty please. The screen is very good if you want many browsers open to research.

maybe they have revised the 2048x1152 23inch pannels, cus the dell and samsung use the exact same panel and mine had some pretty bad issues... but im picky as hell. lol
