I think my mobo might be dead, and I was wondering if I buy a new one just like the last one, will I have to reformat and reinstall windows, or can I just stick it in there and be ok?

The only completely, 100% problem free instance I have had when swapping mobos is in an identical system.

I had a removable hdd set up in my main rig and a pc that was identical (except for amount of video ram- same driver though) at the office. I swapped back and forth every day I went to work at the office.

Not one problem in a year of use.

If the mobo is the same including revision, I am certain you will be fine. :)
If the rev is different I think you will still be ok. ;)

That's good news. The board I have now is an Abit IS7 that I got in July last year. Newegg still sells it, so it looks like that's what I'll be getting again. I really do not want to reformat because I have about 300 gigs of harddrive space, and that would take forever to do.

Oh please let this work. lol

Thanks a lot for your help! :)
