Client has been using workgroupshare by softalk forever to have shared synced contacts and calendars. Always having issues and looking for an alternative. . They looked at google/365 but they think the contact editing is too basic. They want to ad notes and stuff with fancy fonts and more options. Any suggestions on some of the best contact/calendar sharing??

Hi chop_wood,
We used WorkgroupShare for a few years ourselves with 20+ users and had our fair share of issues, the most common were:
1. Slowness during synchronization.
2. The add-in was repeatedly being disabled by Outlook.
3. Shared appointments that kept replicating themselves (ballooning the PST file in the process).

Eventually we came to the conclusion that any Outlook add-in (such as WorkgroupShare) has too many inherent disadvantages that prevents it from performing calendar sharing properly and reliably.

For us, using Exchange was out of the question for multiple reasons,
so logically, the only alternative that remained was finding a solution that works directly with the PST file.
(reading and writing calendars and appointments to it)

We couldn't find a product that would fit the description, so we built our own using the publicly available PST documentation, and this direct approach cut our (full) synchronization time from 30 minutes (with WorkgroupShare) to around 1 minute, the disadvantage being that you can't sync when Outlook is running.

Hopefully that might give you an idea about how to help out your client,
