Would I be able to switch my OS?

here is the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115346 laptop that I am thinking about buying, but it has VISTA with only 512MB RAM on it, would I be able to format the HDD and put XP on the laptop? I wont be able to post anymore untill tommorow, sorry, thanks in advance.

Sure, as long as you have a copy of XP(with key) to use. Make a backup if you can of the default install. That way you can put Vista back on in the future if you decide to.

I couldn't get the acer backup to work for me, you may want to contact acer and get the physical media if possible.

You'd probably be a lot happier. 512 MB is really not enough to run Vista well, but it can run XP quite decently. I don't see why it would be a problem, provided you have a legal copy of XP to install and activate.

Better yet, you could use something free.

But yes, you will be MUCH happier with XP on that box. It should be a crime to sell a system with Vista and <1GB of system RAM.

Actually Microsoft is getting sued now for claiming that systems with 512 MB were in fact Vista capable.
