Ok, I've been granted the honor of being Team captain for F Class :salute:
I would like to say that I'm looking forward to this, and hope that we can have a lot of fun
while pushing our hardware together :)
I have looked a bit at our opponents and posted a list, take a look at it and point out our biggest threats.
Also please post if you have an idea to how much you will be able to improve your score.

And please post your best score in this thread, using the usual standard format posted above.
I will keep the OP updated so that we have an nice overview of the class.

Let the games begin!

Good luck all, and remember to have fun

I'm pretty sure that I can improve a bit here. I'm getting some faster rams very soon, and i hope that they can help on my scores. I also just got the GTX480 and havent had time to get it too the max. Can you mod the bios for more volt on the 480's as you can on the 460? Do you guys think I'll get better results if i pull off the plastic shield on it and stick an Ultra Kaze on the HS?
The weather also looks great for benching the next couple of weeks: Between 0 and -10c :)
So I have something to work with, hoping to break 320K FW points...

Looks like PII x6 and 1 GPU on air is where it's at... Good luck guys

Yes, Wega!, you can edit the bios for a higher maximum voltage. Try to get something better than stock air going on the GPU. Do you have any tower CPU coolers to strap to it?

It's easy to forget, but despite being a mod and writer here hokie's loyalty is to TRP.
NEVAR FORGET!

(or something. In this case, just hope he's found good ole' Jack'n'Coke somewhere :p)

Yes i feel a bit alone with my Intel CPU in this class :)

No I dont have any air coolers besides Intel stock coolers. But i might look into finding one cheap. Any recommendations? But that solution will leave my RAMs without cooling, wont it?

Too bad you're in denmark, otherwise I'd loan you the stock cooler off the 980x, it's nice and chunky.

TRUE is a good one for cheap these days, they can be had for $30. Venomous x and megahalems are both solid choices as well

You can just point fans at the RAM chips, and definitely put air flow on the VRMs. You can usually get a set of RAM sinks and thermal tape pretty cheap. If you can find a vendor, you may want to get some for the VRMs at least.

Yeah, I have a few GPU coolers and a lot of RAM sinks... Shaman, MK-13, and Venomous X. Only if he wasn't overseas...

Yes the Atlantic sea gets in the way sometimes, but thanks for the offers anyway :)

Loots of good suggestions on heatsinks, and I'll start looking around. But it might be just as expensive as buying an Ek GPU waterblock... Maybe that would be a better choice? Moo is talking about putting my rad into a bucket of ice, to chill my water. Is that allowed for the FW's without calling it a "Chiller"? If it is ok, then i might give that a try... What do you guys think of that?

And as for the rams, I think I'll just leave the stock cooling plate on the card, if there is enough room to mount the GPU cooling with the plate below...

Has to be air that is cooling the radiator.
It can be air that came out of an AC unit 6" before going into the rad, but it has to be air.
(And no, I don't think the surface film of air that prevents ln2 from actually touching warm things counts :p)

Ok, so the ice cant touch the rad... Hmm then it's going to be a little though :sly: Ohh well I just have to hope that we get the -10C outside then...

fill a cooler with dry ice, then cut a rad shaped hole in the top of the cooler. Punch some vents on the sides so air can get in. presto chango. cold air.

You think that will give a much better result than just pulling air in from outside if there is -5 to-10C out there?

Not sure...one way to find out :D
styrofoam cooler + a couple lbs of dice shouldn't run ya too much...don't forget to antifreeze the loop.

He he I had a handicap point to spare... I'm now allowed to use chilled water :D Thanks Moo!

So if i drop my rad into a bucket with water and drops a lot of ice in it, I should be good, right? :) Wonder how fast the ice is gonna melt... I think I'm going to need a lot of ice :D

And a bigger boat :D. Something to consider: ice turns to water, so use one of those coolers with a valve and have a way of draining it so that you can add more ice.
