Budget: ~$100 CDN (+taxes)
Current PSU = stock 350 watt

CPU: 64x2 4600+ @2.4 (want to OC & add better HS w/fan)
MB: M2N-E nForce 570
GFX: 7900GS 613/862 (w/Zalman VF900)
RAM: 2x1GB DDR2 667 value
Cooling: 3x 120mm Case Fans (maybe +1 blow hole in future)

I game quite a bit. No SLI in my future so don't worry about that. Quieter is always better.

Zippy HP2-6460P 460W
Thermaltake TR2 550W
Silverstone Zeus ST65ZF 650W
Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS Sc 500W
PC Power & Cooling Ultra Quiet Silencer 470
Enermax EG495P-VE Noisetaker 485W
Enermax All in One EG565P-VE Fma
Enermax All in One 535W
Corsair HX520 CMPSU-520HX 520W
Antec Neo HE430 High Efficiency 430W
FSP Fortron AX500-A 500W
Mushkin HP-550 550W
OCZ GameXStream 600W

Thanks in advance for your help

Thunderball,

You have some great picks in there but I'll comment on what I have "hands on" experience with:

The Corsair HX520 is veerrrry quiet and a great performer.

From your list, my choices, in order of build quality would be:
  • Zippy G1 (or the one you linked to)
  • Corsair HX520
  • PCP&C Silencer (a tad overpriced)
  • Silverstone Strider/Element (both made by Enhance)
  • For a modestly clocked system, the GameXStream would also do fine and is at a very appealing price-point.
Other thoughts:
  • The Enermax units are not bad and you could consider them as well. I'm not familiar with those particular models.
  • The Antec Neo HE is built by Seasonic but is not of the quality the Corsairs or PCP&C are made of.
  • The AX-500A is o.k but regulation under full capacity load is quite poor. I owned one and the rails were bouncing around with a pair of cooler/more efficient 6800GS cards.
  • Don't even think about the Mushkin. It's Topower built, so you can expect poor voltage regulation and reliability. Topower is one OEM I'm not very comfortable recommending to anyone.
  • Of the entire list, the Zippy unit is the best in its class. No doubt about it. None of the units in your list come close in terms of regulation and reliability. However, the only drawback is that it is not efficient (72% typical) and may be a bit loud compared to the Corsair. If you look at my sig, I have the 600W version of that unit. :)

Oh and Corsair 520 is modular and has 2 PCI-E connectors. Comes with a spiffy bag too.

Awesome thanks guys!! Looks like the Corsair HX520, as it seems to be the common thread among you. I'll hold off my order for a couple days (if I can wait that long) to see if anyone else pipes in.

I love OCForums

Corsair all the way, been using mine since January and couldn't be happier. Never can hear the thing over my Yate Loons

Just ordered the Corsair 520. Sale ends today so I couldn't wait any longer. *psyched*

Edit: I'll post install pics ASAP.
Edit 2: I am such a gear head now... WTF?

A few pics to show off my new Corsair HX520! Thanks to all who helped me decide on this unit.

My case & cables before.

After... could be better but not bad for a 1st time & late on a Friday night. At least the modular cables really reduce the clutter.

With less clutter, my lighting has room to glow! And there's plenty of room for a Scythe Ninja ...coming soon :sn:

Thunderball,

Is it quiet enough for you? :D

What is your case and the cooler on your CPU?
