179$ for 8600ultra is awesome!

but will it perform good for the DX10 games in the future?

Honestly, it probably won't do as good as one would expect. The 8600U is supposed to be the middle range DirectX10 card. But just like the middle range DX9 cards, they don't do very well at all when compared to the 8900's and 8800's

But that is a killer price!! I may pick one up!

Yea, even if it is the mid-range DX10, it will still beat out most if not all of the DX9 cards. Hopefully ATi with the r600s or x2900's will release a mid-range when they release the high end also.

Need to have something to keep them in this battle.

That information is old. As far as we know there wont be an 8600 Ultra just a lesser 8600 GTS and GT. http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38884

ooo theres actualy the ultra comming out... this explains why all the lower modles have 128 bit bus width on the ram... the ultra has 256... i would expect pretty good performance 64 shaders 500mhz core clock 1400mhz 256 bit ram... probably looking at around 20-30% less performance than a 8800gts... which isnt bad AT all for 179
