looking to upgrade my psu and i know build and part quality ext are important but i dont want to be spending £200 on one so i found this -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110944834593?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

aerocool strike x 1100 watts and 80+ gold certified only £120 but i cant find any reviews on it. here is website link http://www.aerocool.com.tw/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=361&catid=45&Itemid=109

any1 know of anything wrong with this or recommend one better for similar price? must be at least 850w under £150

The 800W model uses Andyson internals. Personally, I'd avoid them. I haven't had a lot of good luck keeping the bigger Andyson built units either alive or in spec, and they always miss their 80 Plus targets.

To the best of my knowledge Aerocool has yet to put out a PSU worth owning.
They haven't replied to our requests for review samples, which is a bad sign.

with 80+ gold and from depending on what i read warranty somewhere between 1 and 5 years sounds like a good buy.

i'll keep the corsair ones in mind. i also found this on sale currys/ pcworld £135 only problem they dont have any in stock at the mo would this be a better chose than the aerocool?

they also do an 850w for £120

The same one is done in Amazon, but for £10 snoop more.

Overall OCZ PSU's are solid builds from what I've read, but you may wish to hear from Oklahoma Wolf or Bobnova as they know more on the subject of reliability than I do.

My own experience is you cannot go wrong with Corsair, yet you pay extra.

With Corsair AX850 (The modular one I linked too) you get a 7 year warranty (according too: http://www.corsair.com/us/support/warranty/)

Not sure on OCZ warranty terms tbh.

I'll at least vouch for my OCZ ZT 750w. Seems to be holding a 3770k @ 5GHz with two 7970s overclocked alright. No small load there. If my memory serves correct, they scored well on the ripple tests also.

850w and around £110, non modular though.

This is modular, but about £30 extra in cost.

I personally would go with either of the above.
These are solid choices.

@ OP - 80+ certification has only to do with the efficiency of the unit, not the quality of it.

That said, why 850W or greater? Even two 7970's both overclocked with a 3770K overclocked can easily work in a 850W Quality PSU... If you only plan on one GPU, there is no reason at all to go more than 500W.

A High quality PSU like Seasonic 560W model is a great choice for single card operation.

couple reasons for the power upgrade
1 - my gpu is throttling under load even tho temps are low core and vrm i read sometimes this can be due to psu
2 - i did a few of the online power calculations and they all estimated around 600w quite close to my 700w psu. although i dont know how accurate these are
3 - i will most likely add another gpu and drives at some point

might go for an 850 all the ones linked look pretty good

1. A PSU wouldnt throttle your GPU
2. THose are quite off. Even at 4.7GHz with your 7950 overclocked and all the other components, you arent even close to breaking 500W, probably 400W really...
3. Then stick with 750W to 850W. Both, with a quality PSU, will be plenty for dual 7950's. With 3770K and 2 7970's (4.9GHz and 1200/1800) I pulled 735W at the wall so around 660W actual use. 7950's will be even less than that and I doubt you will run those clocks I did 24/7.

Shoot, my wife's hot-*** 480GTX SLI / 8350 rig runs on a 750w. I think she's less than 30w from what the PSU can produce, but it was a quality part :attn:

Might want to check the draw on that one, GTX480s are over 300w at full load stock.

If you're careful enough with what you set where, it fits.. but its by a very small "barely"

I think with mV set at where its at, they are pulling like 295-ish on 100% benchmarking. I can make it go higher if I tried hard enough, and I carefully monitored CPU usage..before I made the last OC push..

...

Jesus, I bet that PSU is going to have a very short life. I have a good ol 850 Rosewill laying around the shop on my second torture table, I might go ahead and make that transition. Bob has scared me
