I think 2x160GB would be about the right size, now, which brand?

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 160GB 7200rpm (8MB Cache, 9.3ms, 7200rpm, SATA) (6Y160M0)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB (8MB Cache, 8.5ms, 7200rpm, SATA) (ST3160023AS)

Hitachi, Deskstar 7K250 160GB SATA - 7200rpm, 8MB cache, 8.5ms söktid, Serial-ATA/150(HDS722516-VLSA80)

Western Digital CAVIAR SPECIAL ED 160GB SATA 7200RPM 8MB CACHE(WD1600JD-RTL2)

What kind of performance I'm looking for? High transfer rates over the 1Gbit network on our LANs. High numbers in Sandra would also be nice :)

Thanks for any help!

of the drives you gave, the barracuda has the best performance. the best raid0 drives are there are the western digital 10000 rpm raptors. two of the 74 gb models ought to do you nicely.

agreed, and if those are too expensive for u, hitachis are second in line (but they are nothing comparaed to 2 raptors)

I'm not interested in the Raptor disk's, to small, to expensive.. So The Hitachi is the fastest in Raid0?

I have two Seagates SATA running RAID 0 and so far everything is flawless. I highly recommend setting it up. ST380023AS

(repeating) #1, 2x 74g western digital 10k rpm. #2 2x 120-40g [any good brand named] 7200 rpms...

Well if you go over to Storage Review they have the Hitachi's at the top of the heap after the Raptors.

I have been using them for about 6 months now with excellent results.

WD JB scores around 1000 and the Hitachis around 1200 in PC Mark 2001.

Same thing with OTTO and HD Tach.

Some of the recommended SATA's have problems in a RAID-0 configuration.

;)
