I am a Firefox user and have a question about how Internet Explorer works.
Only after you start using IE, only then does it start registering multiple different ActiveX controls. I decided to start tracking them down after a fresh reimage of my Windows 8. As you can see the first screen shot is of the first ActiveX control attempting to register itself after I simply went to CBS News web site and nowhere else. This is normal behavior apparently but isn't there a way to register these components before starting to browse, thereby eliminating doubt that malware is attempting to install itself by the site you are visiting!?
I also just discovered the reason Internet Explorer phones home out of the box even if you open a Blank Page:
