Hello. Now, i am only 15 but put that aside for now. Do you think that if i started a online store i might get buisness? If i offered parts geared towards OC'ing do you think it might sell? What can a buisness license get me? Reseller? I figured i could sell a couple complete systems along with phase, WC, high-end air, cpu's, mobo's, Mod'ing stuff...that type of stuff. Would a buisness license let me get overstock or discounts? If i had a reseller license could i resell major brands and stuff and make money of of that? Now this would all be in my mom's name. Would the only way to make money is to buy the goods first? Would it be feasable to sell them as i have them and then buy them? I could do webspace and all that stuff. Is taking a loan a smart thing? Thanks guys.

Whoa, huge topic. I take it working for the store did not pan out?

Ah well. One thing you should be aware of is that computer hardware has a whisker thin profit margin. Even with discounts, you can't get a lot out of what you put in.

To be honest, I have not followed you all that much on the forums but if you know your stuff with hardware, you can think about repairs as a service. Most of the stores in SW CT are getting over $60/hour right now with stores in the immediate area getting $80/hour (last time I checked, you probably want to call a bunch of places and just ask what they charge for bench time). I also know that computers are big enough now that many people have them but just can't spend that kind of money for repairs.

Perhaps there is a niche you can work with doing repairs for people who can't be dropping a couple of c-notes to get a box working again. Stuff like parents who have the kids doing homework on an older box they decided to call the second computer a while back and the like.

Well, i am not nessecarily thinking about now but in the future too. I don't need 60/hr as a 15 year old. I could do 20-25/hr which is considerably cheaper. The store before now only wants a full time pc technician so that isn't good.

I don't know a heck of a lot about the retail pc business but I do run my own business so I can offer a few words.

I think your biggest problem will be obtaining sufficient capital. (i.e $$$) If you want to offer products with competative pricing you will need to sell high volume....otherwise you won't be able to get discounts from wholesalers. If you can't compete on price you will need to find another niche such as service or the "you" factor.

A year ago I was thinking about selling only high end video cards via ebay. but realized that the cost of holding 50-100 $600-800 cards was too much risk for me to take on. Even if they were wholesale for $400@100each=$40,000. :eh?:

My advice would be to offer something local i.e builds and service calls (lots of people mess up there comps via porn) and suppliment that with an ebay store.

Spend your money on advertising not on space...run out of your basement if you can

personally - no

why? too many out there already.

If everyone has the mindset of :there is already a wholesale place or a video store or a supermarket", there wouldn't be too much buisness.

Thanks invisible. I have heard of dropshippers where they will shipt he product directly to your customer so you'd never have to have the product. The downside is you can never find them and often have to pay to find out some of them.

yes and no, certain markets are over saturated, such as computer stores / online and offline - that is when you need to be inovative and offer something other places dont that will attract the customers to you over the already recognized and reliable places people shop at.

This is also dependant on your area you live in and the availible market for what you have to offer.
