moving to other dimms

ive readed some people use to install sdrams in dimms other than the first one. i have one 256 MB, what can be the benefits from trying installing it in the other dimms?

Probably none. Your BIOS detects your RAM when you first boot, after that, all your system does is write stuff to it. I don't think it'll make it any faster.
 
Depending on board layout........trace length. And it wouldn't increase speed enough to be detected, but sometimes can address stability issues.
