BIOS "Hardware Monitor"

In the "Hardware Monitor" section of my ASUS BIOS there is a list of current voltage values of CPU, NB, SB etc. Each of them can be set to "Ignored". Anyone can tell me what effect this option has? Nothing is mentioned in the manual.
 
I'd guess there might be some protection on them so that when you accidentally select a high voltage the computer will not boot. At least my rampage formula will not boot with 1.6V+ on my CPU for example.
