My great uncle died in WWII, and my grandfather had a horrific experience in WWII, I personally think playing a game where you shoot, blow up, and decimate your countrymen would be a complete and utter disgrace...

...although, I think recreating the hell my grandfather went through into a game, regardless of what side you on, is pretty horrific in itself.

Burn the history text books then.

Killing is wrong whether it is your countrymen or not.

no

winners write the history, its plain and simple.

how patirotic would a game company look if they wrote an anti allied game?

This is somewhat true, but I think it's more that no one wants to be associated at all with the Nazi regime, with good reason.

I remember when WWII Online was released there was a huge controversy over the ability to play as the Axis. I doubt many companies want to deal with that.

The only game that I can really recall that was based solely on the Axis was Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, and this was released more than 10 years ago.

Because people like missions where you go destroy top secret missels, and not missions where you go round up jews and execute them, or throw babies.

That would only be select groups of Waffen, not the ordinary soldier. Most people tend to think that all german soldiers were part of the holocaust. And calling them nazis is wrong, I doubt all were part of the National Socialist party.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I have family who served in WWII as well, thankfully though none died. My grandfather has many stories as well, he was a bomber pilot. But even so, I think it would be neat to see what it was like. Yes it was wrong of the Nazi party to do what it did. Any form of killing is wrong. But we cannot deny what happened. We can only learn from the mistakes of others to improve the world.

My family went into exile from Finland when the soviets attacked and we lost a large bit of our territory, yet I feel no resentment towards them. I often enjoy playing the soviet side the most in wargames such as Call of Duty.

People need to stop crying over something that happened over 60 years ago and did not affect you personally. I see it as odd that it is very often the American public that takes great insult in honouring the soldiers of opposing armies, when they themselves were the ones who were hardly touched by the war.

Nothing wrong with that, they were all part of the same machinery, bent on world domination.

I have no sympathy for the german soldier in WW2, they were ALL part of the holocaust, because they fought and died for their Nazi masters.

If the Holocaust and other things really would have bothered them ,they could have left. (and some did)

Bensa, I have no love for the "LapinPolttajat".

Not all of them were bent on world domination. Hitler basically brainwashed the people. Ever since the end of WWI Germany (and the rest of Europe for that matter) were in a deep depression, one much worse than the American great depression and one that lasted much longer. After WWI Europe was devastated. The allies demanded that Germany pay war debts to the allied forces, but it had no money to do so. The people in Germany were starving and had little or no work. Hitler promised them that if he came to power, he would get them out of depression, give them food, and Germany would become the 3rd power or empire (3rd Reich) for 1000 years. The people were desperate to have better lives, and went along with pretty much anything he said. The common soldier did not know what Hitler was really trying to do, they were brainwashed by the thought of becoming a prosperous country and to get out of debt. Hitler blamed the hardships of Germany on the Jews, and that is why he killed so many of them, and since the German people were so loyal to this man who promised them prosperity, they too hated the Jews. Not all of the German people wanted world domination, or to even take over Europe. Most were just going with the flow, hoping to become a prosperous country once again.

They were also not all part of the Holocaust. Like I said, they were desperate to get out of depression. Hitler blamed Germany's hardships on the Jews, and so the people went along with it. The common soldier had no idea of what Hitler's plans were, many were just frontline soliders doing the dirty work.

I'm not supporting Hitler, or the Nazi party, I'm just pointing out what really happened. People need to understand what really happened.

As the post above mentioned, most Germans and German soldiers just wanted to get a better way of life, by escaping the depression. They were "brainwashed" by propoganda, and when they relized what was really happening it was too late. If they rebeled or deserted, they died. And their families didn't have a good future either.

The issue is really black and white, as Hitler pretty clearly outlined his plans in Mein Kampf before the germans elected him their leader.

In this case, If you were not opposed to Hitler, You were with him.
There was no grey area, No neutral position.

Most germans had no problem getting rid of the Jews, if they would they
would have tossed the Nazi's out. I understand it would have taken courage and determination on the highest level to oppose the system, But what was the option? The germans chose a path to economic recovery and restored national pride that was fueled by war-preparations and genocide.

Feel free to see it anyhow you want, to me it is simple, circumstances be damned.

Sorry for the rant.

the people really had no choice. if they opposed hitler, they were silenced, or killed. their homes taken over, their family also killed/taken away by the gestapo or worse the schuzten staffel.

Most people didn't read Mein Kampf until Hitler came to power.

Throught Public works projects (autobahn), national industry(volkswagen), "ousting the wealthy" Hitler didn't say, "hey look, the jews are rich, and your all poor, lets kill them in horrendous ways, then you can have their riches", and reunited Germanic nations.

For the love of god. Get back on topic.

Anyone looked at that link i posted or not?

The last thing we need is another half-assed, graphicly out dated, sorry excuse for WW2 game. Let alone one were you played on the nazi's side. I'd rather see a vietnam game were you play on the gooks side.

The thing with that is, it was totally unorganized. They used guerilla warfare. There weren't any big battles, just attack and hide, attack and hide, attack and hide. hell, even the civillians were attacking us. It would be hard to make a game that is factual around that, methinks.

Yes. Sorry for not commenting on it, but I must say that looks very interesting. I can't wait til it is done, sounds like a blast!

Yeah, i think it looks great as well. COD as Germans, in SP, gotta be good.

Feydd if that was in response to my link, you need help.
:p

Never looked at it. Just thought the idea of a game were you sneak around in tunnels and perform ambushes would be fun. BTW The viet-cong were any thing but unorganized. Sure they never won a single battle, but who won the war?
