Shopping for motherboard.. anyone have preference between a 16x slot and a 4x slot versus a pair of 8x slots for video?

Honestly, I dont think youre saving much money here by getting a board like that over one with dual 16x 2.0 slots...

Get the Mainboard that will have you covered for a while not just the bare minimum and you will be a lot more happy in the furture... I know that doesnt directly answer your question but dual 16x slot boards are not a noticeable jump in price any more.

not just the bare minimum

Nonsense, there is no data loss on 8X/8X.

Even recent boards released in 2009, CF certified, with P45 chipset were 8X/8X and it was recommended to do a CF 4800 setup.

Tested tons of games with CF HD4870 ON 8X/8X and can back up my words.

King107s has a X48 motherboard though, i can see his concern, but i assure, that you won't be disappointed with 8X/8X if money does not allow a 16X/16X.
