Yea, I am still trying to decide but I have seen reviews were the 290X and the 970 are pretty close in performance. I just happen to have a 700watt PSU and a 500watt PSU so I could go in any of the two routes. Now for the money i am not sure which of the 970 is worth getting from amazon that is. I have amazon prime so I get 2 day shipping or cheap 1 day shipping plus I already have money packed on that account. So what you guys think is the cheapest 970 that is worth grabbing from amazon?

Currently I see the following cards at $339

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ 4GB GDDR5 256bit, DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI, DP SLI Ready Graphics Card 04G-P4-3975-KR

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Overclocked GDDR5 Pcie Video Graphics Card, 4GB

ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC20C-4GD5 Graphics Cards STRIX-GTX970-DC20C-4GD5

Is crazy how many version EVGA has for the 970.

What are your guys though on the GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD ?

nevermind I think i will go for that SSC version. It looks like it comes with a back plate as well.

The SSC is a nice jump in clock speed over reference. The FTW+ is nice, but it isn't much of a jump over the SSC.

That is nice, funny I like the looks of the 290X on the cards but like the performance for the 970. The 290X just seems to be build in much higher quality with the exception of the SSC which looks like it comes with the back plate.

Here's my comparison on the Lightning 290X and the G1 970. I went with the 970, but you can see more of the reasoning behind it in that thread.

Especially at 1080P, you can't really go wrong with either.

If you're worried about the vram discrepancy with the 970, don't be.

I've been playing AC: Unity for a week now, with vram usage hovering ~3.9 - 4GB and have not experienced a single instance of "stuttering".

Thanks! A lot will check them out.

Darn! even after reading all of that I am still stuck between these two model 290X and the 970. I have never been stuck deciding on a GPU, I just knew and did my purchase. So here is the cards I been looking into so far. What are your guys though.

Sapphire Vapor-X R9 290 $329.99 - Nice fans setup / performance
MSI R9-290 Gaming OC $269.99 - Nice low price and thats about it.
XFX R9-290X DD $329.99 - impressive warranty future proof if it dies lol
EVGA GTX970 SSC ACX2.0+ $339.99 - Nice internal design and specs
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming $334.79 - Nice looking fans setup / performance

1hr to purchase the card so I may be going with the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming. It has what I like, 3 fan setup, pretty lights on the name and it seems to overclock like crazy. It stays cold vs the 290X and specially on really hot summers. So I think that is a winner in my opinion. I will check some more reviews before making my purchase.

There is a chance I may go with the MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G since is cheaper.

I'd pay the $5 for the SSC over the G1, personally.
EVGA is known to have the best customer service in the GPU business.

Also, the G1 is almost 2" longer than the SSC. Do you have room for that in your case?

G1 would also be my choice at those prices. It and the MSI gaming are neck and neck.

You'll be happy with any 970, tbh

Each side of those panels support different drives. Also the bay on top the 5.25 support drives also. I can move them up if needed. Its really going to come down to which one will be overrall better for long term enjoyment while still having room to overclock if ever is needed. I have yet needed to overclock any of my graphic cards yet. XD

Other than that, it would be nice if i don't have to move the drives from were they are but once again if the G1 is better overall then I will go that route if not then I will go MSI or EVGA depending.

Either one will do great long-term.
Both have good coolers and power sections, you won't have issues OCing either.

Thanks guys I will see which one to purchase here soon.

Update:
Just when I though I was set I find out some come with HDMI 2.0 and others don't. XD I have to now figure out which one does just to be a little future proof.

All three of the cards on question (msi gaming, g1, and ssc) have hdmi 2.0 ports. All 970s might?

Any of those cards will greatly impress you, especially at 1080P.

Squeeze the trigger :)

From Geforce.com for the 970:

Standard Display Connectors - Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI 2.0, 3x DisplayPort 1.2
