Sorry , I thought that was a powered subwoofer. Overall , I'm now leaning towards a home-theater-in-a-box solution. Onkyo has some relatively budget friendly solutions. Here http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S340...434667932&sr=1-16&keywords=Onkyo+home+theater or something like these http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DAVTZ140...&sr=1-8&keywords=sony+home+theater+system+5.1

Your requirements are going to put the hurt on your stated budget.

The Yamaha Set. LAKIMENS: Those speakers are tiny, underpowered, and cheap. Think of stereos like muscle cars, bigger and more powerful is generally better. Satellite speakers are essentially tweeters with at best good mids and highs, you have tweeters that are decent highs and mids are going to distort. Sure you could use them, but I'd get a 7.1 receiver, 2 quality 2or3 way bookshelf for the fronts, and use those as side and surround speakers (all they're good for). Other than that, put the DVD unit in the kitchen with the speakers and play some cha cha while you cook.

Upgrade satellites as possible.

Your LG set is a cheapo, old, low quality set that's almost useless (sorry man but that's what it is). Buy a receiver and a couple of bookshelf speakers or live with the sound quality you have.
I don't wanna buy used speakers..Chances are they won't last..
Used speakers is what you have and they for sure won't last. Either buy used decent or quality, increase your budget, or buy headphones bro. you're leaving yourself with no actual option for good sound. Might as well just unplug the surround speakers if you can't afford actual front speakers and a receiver. You've got all the routes with all these posts, good luck, case closed.

I think that's what I said. I was trying to stay as close to the OP's stated budget as possible. Those were some options I found with a quick trip through amazon. He seems to be looking for volume as opposed to sound quality.

Check places like Goodwill for receivers with S/PDIF but not HDMI. They're often very cheap. Audio is rather mature technology and the performance difference between a new IPM based amplifier and a used one of similar specs is quite small. (HVICs are significantly better, but also hard to find on a budget.) Speaker technology is even more mature and buying used speakers that are in good condition can get you some very good deals.

if you get some quality speakers they will last... e.g. i got a pair of polk monitor 50 towers for $100 used... they still had the boxes for them lol couldnt have been more than a few months old. they are still running great.

I bought a pair of B&W DM601s and a CC6 for $275, and that is half of a KILLER 5.1 setup, that will last as long as I care for it to.
