So I have a windows xp box with dual amd MP 2800+'s
I installed windows with just one cpu's. Now I have 2 and windows XP is only showing the one CPU in task manager.
Both cpu's work and the bios shows both cou's.

The system

Asus a7m266-d latest bios.
Dual 2800+ 3gb ddr ram fx5950

Should I just reinstall windows? Or is there something else I can try?

Try this:

BIOS > ADVANCED > CPU MP Support Check > DISABLED

BOOT options > MPS 1.4 Support > ENABLED
and
MP Table > ENABLED

Normally, you need to do your OS install on dual CPU's to start with, instead of just one. Adding a CPU later doesn't work.

Isn't there some sort of hal.dll repair that can be done with the install disk? F2 at some point...

I vaguely remember reading about this when the A64 dual core showed up, but I never had one or dealt with it directly. I just remember a lot of people upgrading from a single to a dual & the 2nd core not showing up.
