What's wrong with GPU-only waterblocks with heatsinks?

I just sinked up my two HD5850's for my build:

Heatsinks & High Life

I've always personally been a fan of GPU-only blocks with heatsinks on the surrounding components - the GPU market progresses so rapidly that buying a $100+ full-cover block in addition to an already-expensive-as-fk graphics card simply isn't realistic all the time. Now with EK's GPU blocks, you can even use the bridge connector instead of having to do sharp 180º bends when running multiple cards. Considering you already have the cards too, I think some EK Supremacy or Thermosphere GPU blocks and an order of RAMsinks & thermal adhesive would be just what the doctor ordered.

whats you guys opinion on quick disconnects? (forget price for a second)

I would say 100% at least a couple before the hardware.

heres a scenario, you fill the massive loop up. leak test for a day or 2. everythings fine, OS installed gaming etc. and you notice your xfire hose leak slightly.

thats a day of draining, pulling off hoses, repairing, testing, and then it all happens again!

quick disconnects are a hassle killer.

with quick disconnects, the water is sealed within the hose. so the entire loop doesnt need to be drained (a drain port or 2 would also help)

Dont be too worried, Alphacool run the concept, of, send us your card and we will make a block for it, and form i understand the pirce isnt too outrages.

I run universal bloks on my 3x 7970Ghz because there are no full cover blocks, its works just fine, and doesnt look bad at all, as long as you steer clear of EK universal blocks! Watercool.de's Heatkiller blocks are the best option i have found.

In fact, i think the Heatkiller full cover blocks will fit your 290x without any issues! http://shop.watercool.de/epages/WatercooleK.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/WatercooleK/Products/15031

The only thing with the Alphacool "we'll make one for you" is that they are slightly overwhelmed with requests :)
But they add blocks on an almost daily basis.. they even have a block for a powercolor card now :)

You beat me. My case is probably four feet tall, but is only a single wide with 4 rads. Wiring 80 fans to look nice will take you freaking forever. I'm down to wiring the PSU. My desk is about 3 feet tall. The case will be towering over me. :) I can't wait to see this sucker. I know what I have spent. You win...you have more money than me.

thats a cute setup u got there...

So is it 10 80mm monsta's again? And how many rads are going with what loop and how much pumping power again? This thing is ridiculously amazing and crazy at the same time. I honestly might use 3-4 pumps in series per loop or at least put a dual between the half points of each loop and the other dual pumps at the other end. Holy smokes this is nuts! Can't wait to see the flow meter reading when all is said and done let alone the temps. :D
