I have a epox 8hka+ and upgraded from a geforce 2 gts ti to a gef4 4400 leadtek 128MB DDR. Now my system is saying it is operating at 2X instead of 4X

my voltage for the agp is now at 3.3 instead of 1.5 most likely due to the 2x and 4x issues.

I went to Leadtek and they had me Download the latest Viakt266a drivers for winXP. It installed various AGP supports and other stuff I was missing.

Restarted the comp and it was still at 2x! so I went into bios and there STILL is no option to select 4x ...just 1x and 2x

so the next step was to use the recommended registry value from Leadtek to force the 4x so I did that and its still the same

ok I'm racking my brains out because I believe 4x is better than 2x. IS there any way to enable 4x and have "normal" AGP voltage go back to 1.5?

seems like I searched everywhere, epox.org, epox.com, leadtek.com and other sites. Still no help.

pls help.

Did you try flashing your bios to the latest version. Try that and see if you are still having the same problem.

hello i made a new post to specify details more clearly about what I've done, any help would be greatly appreciated guys :)

I have an epox 8KHA+ board and recently upgraded from a GeForce2 GTS to a GeForce 4 4400 128MB DDR. Both cards are made by Leadtek. As I upgraded the option to use 4X AGP was not there anymore and I could only select 2X or 1X AGP with the GeF4 card.

I downloaded and installed the newest Via4in1 drivers 4.43 and have installed the registry files to force 4XAGP (...DWORD enableVia4x...)

Still it is not allowing an option to select 4X or forcing it to use 4XAGP.

I experimented with both cards with the display drivers uninstalled. As default, even before the display drivers are put in, the GeF2 is at 4X (vAGP 1.5v), and the GeF4 is at 2X vAGP 3.3v).

I followed the instructions carefully from epox and leadtek which were identical and they do not work.

also the epox site to upgrade my mobo bios didnt specify any changes concerning any AGP issues, so I am reluctant to flash my mobo bios without good evidence or reason.

Can anyone pls help me make my brand new GeForce4 card work as 4XAGP???

Well if you don't have the option to enable AGP 4x in the bios, then it is a bios problem. You are not going to be able to set it in software if it isn't first set in hardware.

So i strongly suggest that you get the latest bios from the epox site dated 6/12 and flash to it, if you use the bootable floopy option you can always make a backup of your old bios so you can revert to it if you don't like the new one.

Let us know how goes.

no change

ok I flashed my bios with the latest one from the epox.com site.

still no difference

riva tuner

Hey I just downloaded Riva Tuner and it says that the Northbridge chip is supported at only 2X and the display adapter is supported at 4X. This is probably the compatibility problem. Is there any way to "sidestep" the Northbridge chip ?? or find a way to make it support 4X?

or do you have any suggestions or advice??

here is the diagnostics from RivaTuner:

I believe you can use wpcredit to acticate the 4x but I'm not positive on the register to hack. You should find it with a search on google or dogpile.
This will allow you to take full control of your bios without restarting, once you have it were you want it then you could use wpcrset so that its active on next reboot.

just found out that VIA northbridge VT366/A of the VIA KT 266/A chipsets are incompatible with newer AGP 4X cards such as the GeForce 4's

ooooo......THANKS A LOT VIA! next mobo I buy I will avoid VIA.

I stumbled on this link the other day and wanted to reply. I have the same motherboard Epox 8KHA+. I just recently purchased a new video card, (MSI G4Ti4200). When i installed the card and the software I went into my CMOS setup and noticed that I could at that time change my AGP mode to 4X. I bought the board about a year ago and have had no trouble with it at all. I'm thinking that you either have a different bios version or the Leadtek card you bought just doesn't support 4X. I'm inclinded to think it is the bios version.
Just wanted to let you know that the EPOX 8KHA+ board does support 4X AGP.

Jim
