corsair xms pc3200 cas2 512mb
mcx4000 with 50cfm sunon fan

locking the pci bus, and setting the divider to 3:4

was wondering if this is feasible, getting the fsb to 166mhz, and the ram to 221mhz.

ive been hearing mixed reactions to the new corsair xms pc3500, where some people are saying it running at worse timings then the pc3200, and some say the pc3200 can oc alot better than pc3500.

since they say that their pc3500 is guaranteed to run at 217mhz, it seems that 221mhz wouldnt be too far away. have any pc3200 been able to hit 220mhz+ with cas2?

It's VERY Feasible ! :)

I know it's feasible, because that's exactly what my rig is doing:

P4 2.40B @ 166 fsb / 3.0 GHz
Air-cooled with a Zalman CNPS6500B
512 Meg of Corsair PC3200 Cas2 ram
IT7 max2
Ram set to 3:4, but I left the timings set to 'by speed' (2-6-3-3)
I have not yet tried to squeeze the ram down to 2-5-2-3 or 2-5-2-2
Geforce 4 Ti4200 set to 290/525, NVidia dets 40.72

My ram is humming at 222 MHz (x2).

VCore is 1.66 (seto to 1.675 in BIOS)
Vmem is 2.6

Temps: 39 C idle, 53C under heavy stress (UT2003 or re-encoding a DVD rip)

Benchmarks:

Sandra MEM: 3364 INT
3368 Float

CPU ALU 5694
FPU/iSSE2 1564 / 3648

3DMark2001SE: 13520 3D Marks.

Very Happy!.

The only thing: UT2003 is very O/C sensitive, so to play 100% stable, I turn the CPU down to 150 fsb (2.70- GHz).

For everything else I leave it at 3.0 GHz / 166 fsb.

Hope that helps.

CPU ID: SL6DF / Malay from Newegg.com ($185.00)

all cool stuff thanks

because im still doing some research before i make a purchase. almost done with the researching tho hehe. what do you think is holding you back from playing ut 2k3 at 166fsb? better socket cooling? active cooling on the mobo?

and about the ram, u think i should stick with the tried and tested corsair pc3200 c2? or get the latest pc3500.

other things ive been thinking about. ive been hearing alot of people talk about PSU's hehe. ive currently got an enermax 430watt psu, and i personally really like enermax since i've been using the brand for a long time. i dont think i would have too much problems with voltages would i?

Prime95 results, here we go:

At 3.0 GHz (166fsb), 1.65 vcore: Prime95 torturetest runs for 4 minutes, then stops on an error.

at 2.91 GHz (161 fsb): it keeps humming along happily, without a hitch (temps hover between 55 and 56 C

Very happy with that result, still. :)

Also, we should bear in mind that a Zalman Cooler (although nice) is not te most aggressive cooler out there. Throw a Swiftech copper heatsink with a high-speed 80 mm fan on there, and it might take this CPU over the hump...

Anyway, if you order from Newegg.com, you have about a 50/50 chance of getting a new C1 stepping, as opposed to the new B0 shrink stepping I got...
The C1 is supposed to OC just that little bit further...

:)
