I might get a really cheap computer from someone. It has that crappy LindowsOS broadband thing. Could I format that OS off and install Windows 98 or Win ME?

I don't see any reason why not, provided the system's hardware is supported by the new OS.

yeah, i think those pc's have standard hard disks. i hope you're going to put a decent OS on it tho (like FreeBSD

I don't really know anything other than Windows. and DOS.

Heh, once you've used a *nix command prompt you'll never go back to DOS. Can't see how anyone can live without piping and command history.
