This is a newb question for sure. I currently have my 2 Maxtor drives on my RAID IDE channel. They where only supported that way with my MB. If i split the drives onto IDE1 IDE2 and turn off my RAID setup will the drives be readable. Reason i ask is im getting 2 Raptors soon and will be using them to boot. I will be using the Maxtors solely for storage and will want to format them if i can swap the songs/movies off em. Thanks in advance :)

You'll lose all the data on the drives if you take them off Raid0.

Thats what i feared!! Now i have to figure how to move all my porn (mp3, movies) from them so i can format them since ill be booting off the raptors...currently have about 150gb of stuff to move but no drive to hold it /frown...any ideas.....im at a loss

Doesn't the P4C have 2 Raid controllers? Why not leave it the way it is and add the Raptors on the other raid controller?

Yes the P4C has a RAID IDE and seperate sata connectors that use the ICH5 to do RAID if i recall correctly. I want to use the raptors to Boot and play games and use the Maxtors for storage only. Seems i will just have to choose the Raptors array for boot and leave winXP loaded on the maxtors, i dont see any other choice. Hummm just had a thought. Would deleting all the winXP files on the Maxtors cause them to become corrupt?? (ultimately looking to make as much space as possible on them for DVD-R and such.

You definitely want the Raptors on the ICH5R controller. You have to change the boot order in the bios to point to the new Raid0 (Raptors), then you can install your new OS and delete the old system directory. You can use XP's account profile transfer utility before you delete the directory so you don't lose the settings from your old install.

Thanks for the heads up Bobby. I have the P4C800 Deluxe which has the ICH5, the P4C800-E has ICH5R. I bought before the "E" was out. From what i've seen though it does the job ok even if it promise drivers running the RAID setup. If im not happy ill sell the P4C and get the "E". Only time will tell.
