does anyone know if the raptor 36 gig has a built in temp probe? how do you read temps of a HD? you got to put a probe on it?

What you are referring to is called S.M.A.R.T. technology, and of course Western Digital drives have it.
You'll need a program like MBM5 or SpeedFan to access the sensors and generate a reading for you.
Your SATA drive will need the option to scan for SCSI drives enabled in MBM5 or it will only search for IDE drives and miss your Raptor altogether.
