need some serious help with sendmail

i'm the server admin at Anime-Source.com (that's a minor shameless plug =P)
we just moved to a nicer system and so i was going through getting up all the stuff we were running before and everything was fine until email came up.
i did not set up the email on our previous machine and i never even touched it so i have no clue what i'm doing.

if anyone here has some sendmail experience and some time to answer a few questions and/or troubleshoot let me know... =/
(i'm very close to seppuku atm... it's that frustrating)

well find out what version the old sendmail was
and copy the config files, then install the same version( or any version, as long as there are no differences in the config file layout) on the new system

and put the config files in the correct places

i don't use sendmail, but the general principle works for almost everything in *nix so i dont see why it wouldnt work

i moved shortly after the new one came up... also before i had a chance to figure out that i needed those config files =/
