Hi, all

I have a problem with 12V output and hope I can get some help from here.

I found the 12V output shown in asus probe is only 11.369V, however, in bios, it is shown to be 11.904v which seems normal to me.

When I oc to 250x9, I can finish running 3dmark03 and aquamark, however, I always get failed information when running prime95, which deeply frustrated me. I can pass the superpi in 1M, but always failed in 2M. When I play farcry, the system suddenly restart which give me impression that the system can not work stably under 250x9 and power supply is not enough.

When I decrease the fsb to 240, everything seems ok. No problems complained in prime95 for 2 hours running. I was also able to play far cry.

How can I stably oc at 250 or even high? Is that issue connected with power supply? I am thinking buy a antec neo 480 which is really expensive. Any advice is welcome.

Here is my system specification:
Asus A8V deluxe rev 2.0, bios 1009.007
Athlon 64 90um 3000+ oc@2160MHz
Kingmax 512M (2x256) PC4000 dual channel
ATI 9600XT
COOLMAX 400W (+3.3V@30A, +5V@40A, -5V@1A, +12V@18A, -12V@1A, [email protected])
Matrox 60G IDE hdd
Benq CDRW

Many thinks!

I'm inclined to blame the PSU indeed - you might want to look into something with a bit more juice on its rails

DaButcha is probably right, I had the same problems when I used the PSU that came with my case. (Aopen 400W)

When I upgraded the problems went away.
Most forums recommend 25-30 amps on the 12V rail for these cpu's.

Thanks for the information.

I need to borrow a digital voltage meter. It is too bad that mine can only show 3 integer number for voltage which is only 11V.

I had and still have the problem you described.
The issue is with ASUS Probe or the BIOS or the MoBo undervolting. I checked my PSU with a DMM when loaded and everything was O.K, so I'm inclined to blame the BIOS.

Ofcourse, I was ready to tweak my pots using the technique described here {For the general information of all FSP530 ownwers}.Look into these threads, it tells you how to actually make the Voltage measurement.

Time4aMassiveOC,
Well that the Antec is the best is debatable IMO but your other comments are very true indeed.
It would save a lot of people a lot of trouble when they didn't cheap out on PSUs.

dont forget that 2% in precision for 1V is 0.24V and most of the DVM have this precision, and you can forget the last digit. (the same applies for the sensors on the motherboard)

I can tell ya right now that its the PSU. You need atleast 20A on the 12v+ to run an A64 with any luck. Most people reccomend atleast 25A for overclocking with the optimal configuration being over 30A.

I'd start looking for a new PSU at this point:( Fortron makes a cheap alternative called "Blue Storm" might wanna take a look at it

debatable against what? i dont know of any better power supplies with solid dependability reviews and reccomendations that produces the 550W and has 36A on the 12 v rail. if you happen to know of anything that even remotley competes much less beats it out. id love to know.

and if you have something in mind please provide a review.

PC Power and Cooling and also OCZ Powerstream are quite good.
Not to say better but surely equal.

Thanks for the reminding.

I have RMA'ed my old psu and buy the following one:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-924&depa=0

It is really nice since it provides two seperated 12V rails to ensure a reliable supply of power. It was rated as 10-point kick-*** product by maximumpc.

I will report the result after I get this one and see how high I can squeeze the cpu.

how expensive is expensive? you should be getting a 24pin,( not 20!!! ) truepower antec 550 with 36A on the 12v rail. period. its the best one out for us overclockers.
