I copied my data from one hard drive to another. Now I need to load a bootloader. So I put in a livecd. fdisk works fine and I can see the hard drives from the livecd. However, as soon as I chroot to my real root, it no longer sees the hard drives as existing at all, including the hard drive (/dev/hda) on which the root partition it's currently running is on!

Why is this, and how can I fix it? I need to get a boot loader installed.

Thanks.

did you forget to mount proc perchance? that's the only thing i can think of that would not see the hard drives. I've never had any experience with anything like that so it's just a suggestion.

I got it. Had to mount the /dev/ directory -bind in the chrooted environment so it could access them.
