Turns out I need to build/buy a system for streaming fairly quickly. I've been using a Surface Book 2, but I can't run 2 cameras from it without using the onboard one, which makes it awkward due to having to angle the screen just right.

So, what I need is an inexpensive MB that can handle 2 to 3 USB cameras, and I can handle 3-4 large spinning drives for stored raw video, along with an NVME/SSD OS drive.

Since I'm streaming, I'm not going to be doing a lot of video editing. No gaming. The expansion slots will need to handle video card, and possibly an additional USB controller card.

I've been out of it for a while, and I'm not used to looking for budget hardware.

Or is this something that I should buy and off the shelf system and and swap out video card and add hard drives?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I mean, most any would do honestly. There's nothing in your list that's out of the ordinary. All mATX+ motherboards have four or more sata ports and at least an nvme slot. Full length expansion slots you'll find on most too and plenty of usb ports for 2/3 cameras and mouse + kb.

It's really a what you want to drop in cpu-wise that's what going to determine the gen and cost. For streaming you want a decent cpu and gpu with a good encoder. Doesn't take much, but not a Celeron/apu either.

I don't think you'll be able to buy an off the shelf system that has room for 3-4 HHDs for cheap. A lot of systems habe gone to small form factors using NVMe and SSDs.

Best bet is to look for an older workstation or build a system on the cheap with a case and motherboard with room and ports for 4 drives.

$534+tax. All you have to do is add your GPU if you need one, your HHDs and OS.

Thanks! I have a PSU, Case and Video card on hand, so I was able to order the rest with an 8TB HDD for about $500.

Cheers!
