"usb is like a single lane highway, firewire like a double lane one" - ?

The guy's allegory was that if you're trying to both grab data from, and write to, a usb external hard drive, you're likely to have problems, but not with a firewire one, because it allows data transfer in both directions simultaneously. Is this correct?

haha oh man, how many of these usb vs. firewire threads are going to pop up.

This "both direction" thing sin't true. The difference is as follows:

USb has a higher burst speed, but the transfer speed will drop over a sustained transfer, and usb uses alot more of your cpu.

Firewire's burst isnt as fast, but it has a much better sustained transfer speed, and uses little to no cpui.

Just use firewire if you have it.
